The case of a pit bull who got dragged ignites the battle againts animal abuse in McMinn county.

Boss is a rescue pit bull who got dragged in March.

The owner did not take it to the vet afterward.

The pit bull rescue group "Break the Chain" and thousands rally to get justice for Boss and other victims of animal cruelty.

Leslie Woody, Break the Chain, "It was just unspeakable. Tears just rolled down my face and I just couldn't believe what I was seeing."

These pictures just about knocked Leslie Woody to her knees.

Weeks after being dragged behind his owners pick up...Boss had not been taken to a vet.

James Woody, Break the Chain, "I could not imagine me letting anything lay in that much pain without getting it adequate care as soon as possible. if I didn't have the resource I'd find the resource."Leslie, "You can see it's still oozing."

Eight weeks later, Boss is on the mend.

The pit bull rescue group Break the Chains re-rescued him from Billy Jacobs.

He adopted the dog from them in March.

Leslie, "He approved with flying colors. He just seemed like the best home one of our best adopters that we had in our facility.

Now Jacobs stands accused of animal cruelty.

He says he forgot he tied Boss to his bumper.

Boss's rescuers want justice for him and other abused animals.

James, "It happens everyday and until somebody takes the stand because the animals can't speak we have to speak for them."

They hope his story will call attention to the need for an animal shelter and animal control officer in McMinn County.

Marc Allyn, Concerned Resident, "We realize money is difficult for all counties, states and governments but in the long run to have some control here would eliminate situations like this."

And send a strong message too.

Kemella Allyn, Concerned Resident, "In McMinn County if you harm your animal intentionally or you don't get it vet care if you don't take care of the animal like God commanded you to do then you are going to have to suffer for it you will have a punishment."

Jacobs is due in court Friday morning for an arraignment.

Break the Chain and supporters of Boss will gather at the courthouse.

They have a thousand signatures on an online petition seeking justice for Boss.

Animal cruelty comes with up to just under a year in jail or probation.
